Associate Professor Katherine Guthrie
 
Professor Guthrie teaches in the areas of Economics and Finance at the Mason School of Business. Since earning her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan, and receiving a dual B.A. in Economics and International Relations from UC Davis, Professor Guthrie has become an expert on current issues in corporate governance and household finances, and the economics of happiness. She has published her research in peer-reviewed finance, accounting, and economics journals, including the Journal of Finance, the flagship journal for academic research in finance. Since joining William and Mary, Professor Guthrie has taught corporate finance and debt markets & securitization in both our Undergraduate Business Program and the Master of Accounting Program (MAcc). She has received several prestigious honors and awards, among them the Faculty Excellence Award, the Alfred N. Page Undergraduate Teaching Award, and the Geary Faculty Fellowship. Associate Professor, Dr. Julie Agnew
 
Dr. Agnew is the current Director of the Boehly Center for Excellence in Finance and teaches in the areas of Economics and Finance at the Mason School of Business. Dr. Agnew earned a B.A. degree in Economics (High Honors) and a minor in Mathematics from the College of William and Mary, graduating Magna Cum Laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Agnew worked as an Analyst in investment banking for Salomon Brothers in New York City and as an Equity Research Associate for Vector Securities International in Chicago before pursuing a Ph.D. in Finance from Boston College in 2001. She is a TIAA-CREF Institute Fellow, a former elected member of the Defined Contribution Plans Advisory Committee (DCPAC) for the Virginia Retirement System, and a Research Associate for the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College. From 2009-2011, she was the Co-Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Behavioral Finance Research. In 2012, Dr. Agnew was a Senior Visiting Fellow affiliated with the School of Risk and Actuarial Studies in the Australian School of Business at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. In addition to these strong, independent, and experienced professors, we also have the privilege of having a strong support staff, including Rita Murphy. Rita Murphy is heavily involved in the Undergraduate Business program, being an integral player in all finance-related events that occur in the business school, in all finance courses provided, and in all administrative tasks needed to keep the general finances of the Boehly Center and its respective student organizations running smoothly.

consulting activities focus on behavioral finance and its relationship to financial decisions made by individuals in their retirement plans. She has presented her research at several national and international conferences, testified as an invited expert witness in front of the Senate’s Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, and published in journals that include the American Economic Review, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Pension Economics and Finance, and the Journal of Behavioral Finance.

Guthrie is one of the pillars of the undergraduate finance program and has made many noteworthy contributions in and out of the classroom to promote undergraduate learning and career development. Most recently, she spearheaded efforts to design and implement a Distinguished Finance track for undergraduate finance majors.
